What matters in my work

My work is guided by a deep respect for the courage it takes to explore change. I aim to offer a calm, supportive space where people feel understood and never judged, while drawing on clinically=proven psychological approaches to help them move toward to a healthier, more balanced relationship with alcohol.

Every person’s story is unique, and my role is to walk alongside you. working collaborateively, offering clarity, compassion, and practical guidance.

My professional journey so far

My early work as a psychology graduate at The Hunter Centre for Health Advancement at the NSW Faculty of Medicine — recognised as a WHO Centre for Excellence in Health Promotion -  proved to be foundational to my career. The experience shaped my approach through strong research-based practice and provided the broad knowledge and skills that continue to inform my work today.

My early work as a psychology graduate was in a WHO Centre for Excellence in Health Promotion, The Hunter Centre for Health Advancement, University of Newcastle, NSW. I could not have foreseen how valuable this experience would prove to be. It provided me with the expansive knowledge and skills that have continued to charaterise my career.

Over some 16 years working in this inspiring environment  I gained a broad scope of experience developing and implementing community-based drug and alcohol harm reduction programs (e.g. QUIT, Drink Drunk the Difference is U).

My career interests ultimately transferred from large-scale public health programs to individual clinical care.

Commencing private practice in 2006, my work focused primarily  on treating drug and alcohol issues and associated mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

In 2020, I established The Bluefield Clinic online practice exclusively focused on providing care for people with alcohol-related issues. My unique recovery program draws on a wealth of experience in research and clinical practice, to provide my clients the best opportunity to heal.

The journey has been and continues to be highly rewarding.

How I work

I prioritise honouring the depth and integrity of each person’s unique experience, creating a compassionate and collaborative space to explore barriers to change, gently address unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, and support meaningful shifts in drinking patterns and everyday life.

Compassion

Solution-Focussed

I adopt a goal-oriented, future-focused approach that helps you build lasting change by identifying your existing strengths and focusing on what is already working.

Person-Centered

I provide a safe, non-judgemental space where you are genuinely heard and supported, helping you reconnect with your own insight, strengths, and capacity for change

Supporting the community

Alongside my private practice, I am passionate about sharing knowledge through community-based health education. As a volunteer, I deliver tailored presentations to a variety of groups, including women in refuges, young couples planning a family, service clubs, and U3A (University of the 3rd Age). While many educational presentations focus on alcohol recovery by request, the range of topics I explore is diverse, ranging from mindfulness in everyday life and healthy sleep habits, to the newest scientific breakthroughs in longevity research, and the healing power of music.

I find it very rewarding to take complex psychological and health concepts and make them interesting, engaging, and applicable for everyday people.
